$2.5m Phoenix Park Community Centre redevelopment open
08 Oct 2012A $150,000 Community Support Grant has created fully accessible and more flexible community meeting and activity spaces at East Malvern’s Phoenix Park Community Centre.
The redevelopment will greatly increase the use of this former school building, already a popular community facility.
Phoenix Park is a busy community hub with a primary school, library, regional playground, skate park, maternal and children’s services.
The redevelopment has significantly improved the functionality and movement throughout the centre, in particular for clients of disability organisations like Inclusion Melbourne and Scope, and aged care services like MECWAcare, who were earlier unable to access all areas.
The Victorian Government’s four-year $42 million Community Support Grants program boosts community participation and resilience by improving local infrastructure, access to services and funding community initiatives.
Local Councils and not-for-profit community organisations in metropolitan areas can apply for Community Support Grants at any time. Grants guidelines are available from the Department of Planning and Community Development’s grants website.
