Community Foundation gets 3 for 1

05 Aug 2011

Bendigo and Central Victoria Community Foundation has been rewarded for its fundraising efforts with a $200,000 funding boost from the Victorian Government, on top of $100,000 provided in June last year.

It is one of 10 Victorian Government funded community foundations raising money from local corporate, philanthropic, individual and government sources to build and sustain funding pools, to support a wide range of projects and programs that particularly benefit the most disadvantaged in their local communities.

Each community foundation was set a challenge when they received their initial funding – if they raised another $100,000 in the community over 12 months, government would contribute an additional $200,000 – effectively offering up to $3 for every $1 raised.

The Bendigo and Central Victorian community and its community foundation raised more than $119,000 during the past year. This community foundation’s greatest strength is building strategic funding partnerships and strong mutually-beneficial relationships with local businesses, thus enhancing that sense of shared responsibility for the future of the local communities they serve.

More information about Community Foundations is available at the Office for the Community Sector website.
