Manningham city square

New $38m community hub for Manningham

05 Sep 2012

Manningham residents have gained a vital community hub, with the recent opening of Manningham City Square in Doncaster Hill.

All levels of government funded this major project, with the Victorian Government contributing $5.2 million. Across Victoria, State Government is investing in and developing our cities and regions through infrastructure like MC2, to build strong and self-reliant communities.

The new MC2 community hub is home to a host of services. It includes an art gallery, library, café, Doncare, Chinese Community Social Services, Manningham Community Health Services, Interact Australia, YMCA, as well as family services, childcare, maternal and child health and preschool facilities.

A bonus feature is the innovative tri-generation energy system installed in the basement, which uses natural gas to produce an electricity source for heating or cooling.

The Manningham City Council, key partners and the local community worked together to develop this state-of-the-art community facility. From the local volunteer network and the Doncaster Primary School’s 'time capsule' project, to the hoardings entry artwork along Doncaster Road, community involvement in the project has been impressive and rewarding for all.

MC2 was opened on 3 September 2012 by Member for Doncaster and Minister for Community Services, Mary Wooldridge, who also represented DPCD’s lead minister, Deputy Premier Peter Ryan.
