Casselden Place
Every day we live and work in amongst Melbourne's history. We are surrounded by the bricks and mortar of our past. But did you know that you are also walking over history?
Beneath our CBD streets and buildings lie the stories that have made Melbourne what it is today. Throughout the CBD there are over 800 identified sites of archaeological importance. Now we are about to take an extraordinary journey into our past by exploring just one of those sites.
The Casselden Place dig was undertaken in 2002 and at the time of excavation was the biggest archaeological dig ever carried out in Victoria. It revealed not only artefacts in their thousands, but gave us an even greater glimpse into the life and times of Melbourne's 19th century.
