The history of gold mining in Victoria
Victoria has a rich history in gold mining. It was the main reason for immigration to Victoria in the from the 1850s to the 1900s. The remnants of mining activities remains today in the form of historical archaeological artefacts and sites.
Over 3000 sites are recorded in the gazetteers (based on the State's mining divisions).
