Tallygaroopna tallies up new change rooms

The changing rooms at Tallygaroopna Football Netball Club near Shepparton have been standing for around 20 years and are best described as dilapidated. Fortunately, in 2005 the Club was successful in its application to the Victorian Government for funding to replace the change rooms, receiving $50,000 from the Country Football and Netball Program.

“We were very much getting to the stage where the old ones needed to be torn down,” said Dean Jones, secretary of the Tallygaroopna Football Netball Club. “The entire club is very excited about the new facilities which will be bigger and provide easier access,” he said.

Construction is expected to begin in January 2006 and take about six months. “We’re confident our new facilities will help grow the area’s already strong commitment to football and netball,” he said.

The Country and Football Netball Program is a $10 million program funded by the Victorian Government ($8 million) and the AFL ($2 million). It recognises that sport is a great way of bringing communities together and encourages physical activity that has excellent health and social benefits.

Dean is looking forward to a big year in 2006 for the club. “We have a fantastic ground, new community centre, new coaches and the new change rooms will complete the picture, bringing a new face and new atmosphere to the club,” he said.
