Refurbished Streetscape for Otter Street Collingwood

30 Mar 2011

Otter Street Collingwood has received a facelift. The recent street improvement works in Otter Street are courtesy of a joint State Government and Yarra City Council initiative to improve the amenity of Smith Street.

The streetscape works involved a redesign of the Otter Street public space with the installation of new seating, paving, street furniture, improved lighting and tree planting. Planning and design for the project commenced in January 2010 and works were finalised this month.

The upgrade is part of a suite of street improvements set out in the Smith Street Structure Plan which was adopted by council in 2008.

DPCD funded the works with a $270,000 Creating Better Places grant. Yarra City Council contributed $545,000 and Melbourne Water contributed $140,000, respectively.

The Creating Better Places program is a $17.8 million funding program for urban improvement projects in metropolitan centres and regional cities and towns.
