Socio-Economic Indexes for Areas (SEIFA) maps
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) produces four different Socio-Economic Indexes for Area (SEIFA) which enable analsysis of different aspects of relative area disadvantage. The Index of Relative Socio-economic Disadvantage (IRSD), one of the four SEIFA indexes, is calculated using selected measures collected in the 2006 Census of Population and Housing (see ABS' Technical Paper for details). These SEIFA maps illustrate the spatial distribution of comparative disadvantage based on the IRSD.
The SEIFA maps will be updated with 2011 Census data in 2013.
