Reconciliation

Reconciliation is about building better relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and the wider community.

Aboriginal Affairs Victoria supports Reconciliation Victoria which is the State peak body for Reconciliation. This support will assist Local Reconciliation Groups across Victoria, promote awareness of Victoria’s Aboriginal communities and their aspirations and work with Local Government to develop and implement Reconciliation Action Plans.

Reconciliation Victoria supports events to engage the community in reconciliation, particularly during National Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June). A focus for this engagement in 2012 will be the recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the Australian Constitution.

In 2012 Reconciliation Victoria is engaging with people from across the State to develop a Victorian Reconciliation Framework. This will define what Reconciliation is and how to work with Governments and businesses to achieve reconciliation in the community.
