Indigenous Regional forums

The first Statewide Indigenous Forum was held in October 2008, in Melbourne’s northern suburbs. In March 2010, three forums were held in across the state, in Ballarat, Traralgon and Melbourne, attracting around 350 participants from both government and Victorian Indigenous Communities.

The format of holding regional forums was collectively suggested by the Premier’s Aboriginal Advisory Council, in order to maximise the amount of people involved.

The 2010 Regional Indigenous Forums have provided an ongoing opportunity for government and Indigenous community representatives to come together to discuss issues and priorities as identified by Indigenous individuals or communities.

This year’s Forums allowed for a wide range of discussions, including regional collaboration, keeping kids connected, local challenges and opportunities, lateral violence, inclusion and economic development.
