Audit program 2010-2013

The Local Government Investigations and Compliance Inspectorate (Inspectorate) is responsible for conducting audits of all Victorian local councils.

The current audit program will see all 79 councils participate in a comprehensive audit process over a three year period, scheduled to conclude in June 2013.

The audit program is conducted under the authority of section 223B of the Local Government Act 1989 (Act) and is independent of other Victorian government entities.

During the audit process, the Inspectorate compliance team will attend council premises to review material and assess statutory compliance and, where applicable, processes.

Specific sections of the Act to be reviewed during the audit include:
