Municipality Profile

The City of Port Phillip has an 11 km foreshore on the northern edge of Port Phillip Bay and south of the Melbourne central business district. It includes the entertainment and leisure precincts of Bay St (Port Melbourne), Clarendon St (South Melbourne), Fitzroy and Acland Sts (St Kilda) and Carlisle St (Balaclava).

Significant employment areas include the St Kilda Road office district and industrial, warehousing and manufacturing districts in South Melbourne and Port Melbourne. There has been significant residential redevelopment in recent times, with people attracted by the inner city lifestyle and the recreational and cultural facilities.

Councillors are elected through preferential voting.
Since 2008, all Victorian councillors serve a four year term.  The next general election is in October 2016.
