Faster, self-serve access to historical planning scheme information online

30 Jun 2011

Planning professionals now have at their fingertips a snapshot of how the Victoria Planning Provisions and local planning schemes looked at any point in time since the introduction of the new format planning schemes began in 1997.

The Minister for Planning Mathew Guy today released the new online Planning Scheme Histories service.

This free online service provides important historical information about planning scheme amendments that would normally take considerable research.

Planners use this information to inform them of previous strategic and policy decisions that may influence planning decisions in the future. It is estimated that this one-stop-shop will save significant searching time equating to hundreds of thousands of dollars each year.

As future changes are made to planning schemes, the Planning Scheme Histories service will be updated as the ongoing repository for all planning scheme changes.

The new service completes the provision of free public access to planning scheme history information in Victoria by complementing the older hard copy information now held by the Public Record Office Victoria.
