Have your say on zones reform

19 Jul 2012

Planning Minister Mathew Guy has announced reforms to Victoria's planning zones. Comments are invited on the proposed reforms.

The planning zones are being reformed to ensure they are relevant and adequately reflect the aspirations of all Victorians.

  • The new residential zones will give clear guidance about the development expectation for any residential area.
  • The new commercial zones will allow more uses ‘as of right’ and rationalise the five existing business zones into two new commercial zones.
  • The amended industrial zones will be freed up to allow modern industrial and office developments to be constructed.
  • The amended rural zones will remove unnecessary restrictions on farmers and create flexibility for complementary low impact activities such as farm gate sales.

The release of the planning zone reforms follows extensive discussions with major stakeholder groups including the Municipal Association of Victoria, the Victorian Farmers Federation and Rural Councils Victoria.

Comment on the planning zone reforms will be received until Friday 21 September 2012.
