Activities Areas Programs and Projects
The Department has funded a number of grant programs. These grants provided specialist expert advice to councils for finalising and implementing structure plans as well as urban design / improvements and capital works projects. Further information on these programs is listed below.

Community Works Program 2012
The Minister for Planning announced the first round of funding for the Community Works Program in March 2012. The program aims to deliver quality public realm and open space networks that are vibrant, connected and enhance community pride.
Councils across Victoria were eligible to apply for grants to a maximum of $200,000 in the first round. Applications closed Thursday, 17 May 2012.
The next round of funding will be announced late 2012.

Expert Assistance Program 2007-2011
The Expert Assistance Program (EAP) was initially launched in June 2007 to assist councils to more effectively drive growth and change in activity centres. The program provided specialist expert advice to assist councils to finalise and implement structure plans for Principal, Major and Specialised Activities Areas in metropolitan Melbourne.
EAP has supported:
- Councils to progress the completion and implementation of structure plans for Principal, Major and Specialised Activities Areas.
- The private sector and councils to undertake strategic planning work for major redevelopment sites in metropolitan Melbourne where planning gaps have been identified.
The Assistance was enabled by:
- Facilitating blockages or gaps in knowledge and expertise that hindered the completion or implementation of strategic planning or structure planning work.
- Providing expert advice as needed in a timely and responsive manner.
Creating Better Places Program 2005-2011
Pride of Place Program 1999 - 2004
- Improved strategic planning through urban design frameworks.
- Professional urban design advice.
- Design development and capital works projects.
