Draft new residential zones
The previous government conducted a review of the residential zones in response to council requests and as part of the response to the Making Local Policy Stronger report.
The Government is currently considering the final form of the new residential zones.
The consultation draft and information sheet describe the draft zones in detail and provide explanatory information about their features.

Background
The Making local policy stronger - June 2007 (PDF - 778 KB) recommended that many local planning provisions would be more effective if implemented through more locally responsive zones and overlays. The report noted that the current residential zones do not effectively reflect the strategic objectives of most local housing strategies.
In February 2008 the New residential zones for Victoria - a discussion paper (PDF - 415 KB) was released to help develop draft new zones.
