Victorian local government concessions
A number of concessions are available to veterans through local councils, including the ‘Disabled Person’s Parking Scheme’ and council rate concessions, among others. To assist veterans in determining what concessions are available the Victorian Veterans Council has produced a listing of veterans’ concessions by local government area.
This information is correct as at October 2009, and provides a snapshot of local government concessions for veterans along with contact details.

Free travel for veterans and war widows on ANZAC Day
Veterans, ex-service personnel and War Widows enjoy free travel on the Victorian public transport network on April 24, 25 and 26 every year. This Victorian Government initiative helps veterans to meet fellow diggers during the ANZAC Day period.
To qualify for free travel on metropolitan and regional public transport services operated by Metlink or V/Line over these three days, Veterans, ex-service personnel and War Widows simply need to do ONE of the following:
-
present their DVA card (Gold or White) or their Category ‘V’ public transport concession card
OR
-
wear their service medals or War Widow’s badge
OR -
wear their uniform
Army, Navy and Air Cadets, Scouts, Guides, and school students are also entitled to travel free on public transport to and from ANZAC Day parades on 25 April, provided they are wearing their uniform.
For further information or enquiries contact Metlink.

Veterans Concession Card
Victorian veterans who hold a Department of Veterans’ Affairs Gold or White card are eligible for the same public transport concessions available to pension card holders.
The Veterans Concession Card entitles these veterans to concession fares that are approximately half the price of the full daily fare, any time and any day, when travelling on regular public transport services provided by Metlink, V/Line and bus networks (including regional cities such as Bendigo, Ballarat and Geelong).
