Victorian local government concessions

A number of concessions are available to veterans through local councils. These include concessions on rates and eligibility for the Disabled Person’s Parking Scheme. To assist veterans in determining what concessions are available the Victorian Veterans Council has produced a listing of veterans’ concessions by local government area.

Free travel for veterans and war widows on ANZAC Day

Veterans, ex-service personnel and War Widows enjoy free travel on the Victorian public transport network on April 24, 25 and 26 every year. This Victorian Government initiative helps veterans to meet fellow diggers during the ANZAC Day period.

To qualify for free travel on metropolitan and regional public transport services operated by Metlink or V/Line over these three days, Veterans, ex-service personnel and War Widows simply need to do ONE of the following:1) present their DVA card (Gold or White) or their Category ‘V’ public transport concession card; or 2) wear their service medals or War Widow’s badge; or 3) wear their uniform.

Army, Navy and Air Cadets, Scouts, Guides, and school students are also entitled to travel free on public transport to and from ANZAC Day parades on 25 April, provided they are wearing their uniform.
