New Guide to Victorian War Memorials


Launched by Premier John Brumby on Monday 9 November, Remember Them is a new guide to Victoria’s wartime heritage.

Covering memorials across the state, this book commemorates the lesser known stories of ordinary Victorians who served.

Copies are now available in bookstores across the state.


Nominations are now open for the COTA 2009 Active At All Ages Awards


The Linked page opens in a new window Active At All Ages Awards, developed by the Council on the Ageing (COTA) are supported by the Victorian Government's 'Go for your life' initiative. If you know a club or senior (over 50 years of age) whose involvement and contributions to local sport and recreation are truly inspirational, this is a chance to make sure they are recognised. Nominations close Tuesday 15 December 2009.

Bringing war stories to life


Joan Johnstone joined the Australian Women's Army Service in 1941, became an army sergeant and married an ex-prisoner-of-war – all by the age of 22. Joan's story is one of up to 200 being collected as part of the ‘Veterans Digital Story Telling Project’, a new initiative to capture the wartime stories of Victorian veterans and civilians. The Victorian Community Support Grants have recently updated Grant Guidelines and added a range of new supporting resources.

Granting Men the Opportunity to Build a Shed


Senior Victorian men are encouraged to get involved in their community, with the opening of the third round of Men’s Sheds funding at the launch of the Victorian Senior’s Festival.
Apply online by 10 December 2009 to receive a grant of up to $50,000 and support men’s health and wellbeing.
