Supporting Victoria’s volunteers
Volunteering is a great way to get involved in the community. It can bring great personal satisfaction for the volunteer as well as important outcomes for the community. People from all walks of life, age groups and cultural backgrounds, and from towns and rural areas, are volunteering to make their communities more active, confident and resilient. Find out how to get involved in volunteering.
A common feature of strong communities is a strong volunteer culture. This is why the Victorian Government has developed ways to encourage and support the participation of volunteers in communities across the State. Read more about volunteering trends in Victoria (PDF 137kb).
Advice from local communities on how volunteering can be supported locally is guiding the way the government supports Victoria's volunteers. Key elements of the Victorian Government's support for volunteering include:
Volunteer support grants
These grants enable communities to identify and develop practical and creative ways of supporting volunteer participation. Find out more about Volunteer Support Grants.
Victorian Volunteer small grants
These grants help provide a more diverse range of volunteering options in local communities. Find out more about the Victorian Volunteer Small Grants.
Celebrating Victorian Volunteers
Through the Department of Planning and Community Development, the Victorian Government has made certificates available to community organisations so both government and organisations can say “thank you” to volunteers. These certificates can be presented as required to all volunteers in recognition of their service, and may be presented on International Volunteer Day, during National Volunteer Week, at annual general meetings or at end of year functions. The name of the recipient and the relevant organisation can be typed or written on the certificate by the donor organisation.
Volunteering in culturally and linguistically diverse communities
To support volunteering activity in culturally and linguistically diverse communities, especially among recently arrived migrant groups.
Commonwealth Games volunteering legacy
To increase volunteering opportunities in the State as a result of the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
