Community Building Demonstration Projects
The Community Building Demonstration Projects were a four year whole of government initiative that comprised ten locality-based projects. The locations were selected on the basis of social, economic or geographical disadvantage and the potential to adopt a community building approach. The Demonstration Projects assisted government to reform the way it worked with and provided services to these local communities.
The $5 million program funded by the Community Support Fund was announced in October 2001 and was administered by the Department of Planning and Community Development in partnership with all government departments.
In July 2005 after successfully harnessing the energy and enthusiasm of local communities, the 10 Community Building Demonstration projects were extended for up to 12 months and received a share of over $500,000 in additional funding to ensure their achievements were sustainable and could be built on.
