Grants and funding
The Department of Planning and Community Development administers grants based on three features of strong communities: planning, strengthening communities and building community infrastructure. Many of these grants are available to community organisations. Visit Grants@DPCD to find out more.
Sport and recreation
Sport and Recreation Victoria provides greater participation opportunities for all Victorians. This is achieved by improving the quality of community and international sport and recreation facilities, strengthening the capacity of sport and recreation organisations, supporting world-class sporting events and reinforcing the role that sport and recreation plays in building stronger communities. Local Government Victoria
In Victoria there are 79 councils representing around 4.6 million people. Each council varies in size, population, rate base and resources, but all must operate in accordance with the ‘Local Government Act 1989’. To learn more or to find your local council, visit Local Government Victoria.
Neighbourhood houses and learning centres
Neighbourhood Houses are not-for-profit community-based organisations, managed by volunteer representatives of the local community. Find out more at Community Building.
Evaluation Guide
A new resource has been created by DPCD to assist community groups and staff to carry out successful evaluations. Whether you are establishing a new project or measuring the impact of an existing program, the Evaluation Step-by-Step Guide helps you to develop an effective and informative plan for your evaluation.
Working in Partnership
DPCD has identified five key features of effective partnerships in the Working in Partnership guide: a good broker, the right partners, clear objectives, good processes, and ongoing motivation. These features form the basis of the guide which offers practical advice and resources to help you run an effective partnership. Resources include: job descriptions, governance examples, conflict of interest guidelines, a communication strategy, meeting processes, MOUs and Terms of Reference documents and evaluation advice.
Business and community partnerships
The Department of Planning and Community Development sees a growing potential for businesses and community organisations to investigate areas where they share common interests so they can develop innovative ways of working together. By working collaboratively on common goals, partnerships allow business and community groups to maximise the available resources and deliver benefits for themselves and the wider community. Victorian Multicultural Commission
Victoria is one of the most culturally diverse and harmonious societies in the world. The Victorian Multicultural Commission provides the Government with independent and responsive advice, and promotes the participation of Victorians, regardless of their ethnicity, culture and religious background, in building a successful future for us all. On 1 May 2007 the Victorian Office of Multicultural Affairs (VOMA) was merged into the Victorian Multicultural Commission, creating a single entity devoted to multicultural affairs in Victoria.
