Local Government Victoria is part of the Department of Planning and Community Development. Local Government Victoria works co-operatively with Victoria’s 79 local councils to ensure that Victorians enjoy responsive and accountable local government services.

Our role

Through partnerships with councils and local government associations, Local Government Victoria encourages and supports best practice and continuous development in local governance and local government service delivery to all Victorian communities. Read more about our role

Our Minister

Minister Richard Wynne was elected as a member of the State of Victoria Legislative Assembly for Richmond in 1996. In November 2006, he was appointed the Minister for Local Government and Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and in 2007 as the Minister for Housing.
